Russell Hannah: Equity Release Adviser in Scotland

I am 57 years old, married to Joan, and we have two lovely daughters, Colette and Natalie. Our home is in Alloway, Ayrshire, a particularly lovely part of Scotland.

For over 20 years I was Finance and Commercial Director of Fullarton Computer Industries a subsidiary of Laird Group plc

I am also a qualified, certified, and corporate accountant and because of this have always had an interest in Financial Services.

After the decline of manufacturing in Scotland, I moved into financial services in 2003, when I joined One Solution in Glasgow.

As anindependent financial consultant and equity release adviser I initially specialised mainly in mortgages and protection. However, as soon as I moved into the industry I recognised the potential benefit of equity release to my older clients, 55+, who with inadequate pensions were struggling to cope with rising household bills etc. Equity release offered them a possible way out. So to ensure that I could help all my older clients I revised for, and passed, my examinations covering lifetime mortgages and Home Reversion plans.

As members of the "older age" group, my wife and I have already explained to our daughters that we may well make use of equity release ourselves as we become older.

I am a firm believer in offering face-to-face advice, and will always encourage my clients to invite a family member to our meetings. This has always proved very popular and has led to me receiving a number of referrals.

Working in this market gives me great deal of satisfaction, as you can see how quickly Equity Release can make such a difference to people's lives.
